Today marks a HUGE milestone. I just finished writing my 150th scripture song! The majority of them are on the website, but I haven't uploaded all of my Old Testament and New Testament scripture songs yet. I'll do them as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Seminary program studies them over the next two years.
It has been an adventure writing these songs and coming up with something unique every week (or, at least, most weeks). I wrote my first Scripture Songs in 2009. I think I did 6 songs at first. I spent a lot of time on them and included piano accompaniments. I really started writing consistently in 2015. They haven't all been hits, but some are super catchy and my kids love them and love to sing them (1 Nephi 3:7, Moroni 10:4-5, and the Standard of Truth are among their favorites). This week's Scripture Song of the Week is Doctrine and Covenants 19:17-19 - The Savior Suffered for Our Sins. The songs are always free!! I hope you have enjoyed these songs. I plan to keep writing for the foreseeable future. - at least as long as I have kids at home. The one thing I don't have much of is feedback. I know people are coming to my site and using the songs. I want to hear from you!! Let me know what you think of the scripture songs. I would love to know which one(s) you or your family like. See you next week! Keep singing!

Hi everyone! I just wanted to let you know that I am close to having 300 followers on Facebook. Please share the page and this site with your friends and help me reach 300! I'd offer you a song for free, but they already are. :)
Website address: https://scripturesongs.weebly.com Facebook page: https://facebook.com/ScriptureSongsBySteve and just for fun... My main composing/conducting page: https://sdcompose.weebly.com and Facebook Page https://facebook.com/SDCompose Also on Twitter @SDCompose Greetings! What a joy to start a new school year. This summer has been pretty crazy for me which is one of the reasons that I haven't uploaded any new scriptures. With the beginning of a new school term, my oldest kids are also returning to seminary. This year, they are studying the Doctrine and Covenants and LDS Church History. Looking through the list of Doctrinal Mastery scriptures for seminary, I realized that I have not written songs for most of them. It's time to fix that. So, here is D&C 13:1, your Scripture of the Week. These are the words spoken by John the Baptist as he restored the Aaronic Priesthood through Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdry.
I was writing a weekly newsletter for a while earlier this year. I didn't get any feedback on whether it was appreciated or not. If you would like to see that newsletter resumed, please either comment below or sign up for the newsletter on the home page. Either way, I'll know. Keep singing!! Continuing on the trend of working on Book of Mormon Doctrinal Mastery scriptures, our family is working on learning Mosiah 2:41 - Obedience Brings Blessings and Happiness. The tune ended up quite jaunty at some points! I hope you and/or your family or seminary class may enjoy learning it along with us!
Click here to view the Scripture of the Week! Make sure to follow me on Facebook and Twitter to get the latest news about new Scripture Songs By Steve! I have just spent a good portion of my morning re-typing some of my very first scripture songs. Back then, I was not using them for memorization sake - I had dreams of possibly publishing these - so I included accompaniment and some articulations. Unfortunately, since that time in 2009, I lost the files sometime while changing computers. I still had the hard copies, though so I re-entered them into my software and uploaded them today.
Mosiah 2:17 Alma 41:10 Ether 12:27 In addition, I found two more Book of Mormon scriptures that I had not yet uploaded, so I posted those as well. With this posting, I have now uploaded all of my Book of Mormon scriptures that I have written up to this date. Moroni 10:19 Moroni 10:30 And lastly, I also uploaded the new Scripture of the Week, Alma 39:9 which is one of the LDS Doctrinal Mastery scriptures for the Seminary program. I have put all of the Book of Mormon Doctrinal Mastery scriptures in bold for easy reference. I have songs for over half of the scriptures. One last items, on all the songs I posted today, I also included a file with me singing the scripture. If you find that helpful, please comment below! Keep singing! With the uploading of this week's Scripture of the Week, Matthew 11:28-30, I have now published 80 Scripture Songs by Steve on this site! I plan to keep these songs free for download so you can learn, learn, learn.
I will be going through the Book of Mormon Doctrinal Mastery scriptures and writing songs for those that I haven't done yet. It may take a bit, but I'll eventually get it done. If you have printed any of these songs and learned them, I'd love to hear about your experience. Was it easy? What would help? How can I aid your experience? Comment below! Keep singing!! I had some time today (finally), so I decided to go on a publishing spree. In addition to a new Scripture of the Week, I also published 15 other Scripture Songs - mostly from the Doctrine and Covenants. Here's the complete list of what was published today:
2 Nephi 26:33 3 Nephi 5:13 D&C 1:37-38 D&C 14:7 D&C 19:16 D&C 25:12 D&C 58:42-43 D&C 59:21 D&C 82:10 D&C 84:88 D&C 107:100 D&C 115:5 (Scripture of the Week!) D&C 121:45 D&C 124:114 D&C 130:18 D&C 138:56 Which one is your favorite from today's list? Enjoy!! It's been a couple months since we've had a new Scripture of the Week. The kids have been choosing to review some of our old Scripture Songs, so I haven't had to write a new one. We had Family Home Evening last night and we started learning Romans 1:17, "For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, the just shall live by faith." I wrote a song this morning and can now post it. Enjoy!
I'd love to hear from you if you have downloaded or used any these songs. Also, please comment if you know of other sites that do this same sort of Scripture Song thing. Would it be helpful for you to have someone singing the melodies or is the piano recording enough? Please pass this on to your friends. Remember, everything on this site is always and will always be FREE! And please check out my other site, SDCompose.weebly.com. Keep singing! With the addition of this week's Scripture of the Week, 2 Timothy 3:14-15, I have hit the milestone of having 50 Scripture Songs officially online. Also exciting, this is song 99 that I've written. When I write and post song #100, I'll do a big website blast and post a bunch all at once.
I still don't know if anyone is even using these songs on their own, but I'm mostly writing them for my own kids anyway, so I'll just keep plugging away. Keep singing! Hello! I'm sorry it's been so long since I've updated anything on this site. I moved across country to Washington state this summer and then started my doctoral studies and just became swamped. Plus, I have been working on another side project. I've launched a web page dedicated to my other compositions. Check it out at SDCompose.and remember to follow me on Facebook!
Anyway, I just updated the Scripture of the Week. We've done this one before, but my son, Jeremiah, decided he wanted to review Jeremiah 1:4-5 again. It's always good to review! Thanks for visiting! |
